New users are always welcome, as long as they improve the Frisian Wikipedia. Adding text in the English language will in general not have that desired effect. (And putting your User page on your talk page probably won't do much good either.)

  1. I indeed wonder about what could have been misunderstood, by an en speaker like you, about my explicite wish "P.l.e.a.s.e__d.o__n.o.t__t.a.l.k__h.e.r.e."
  2. Proceeding exactly the same way in most of the ~55 projects where I contribute but occasionally, and in some of them for several years, I wonder that fyWP is the only one where I've been ranted about this 'problem':
    I, for myself, would see it as being somewhat stupid, and at least: Being unpolite, to send "my" visitors to a page where I have nothing else to say but that I'd prefer to be contacted on another place, and that they are please asked NOT to use my "local" talk page. Besides, not all contributors consult the USER page before posting to the USER TALK page. Admins and even wanting-to-be admins on ~55 other wiki projects seem to share my opinion, and sometimes even support me. Possibly, because, this "my" procedure obviously saves waste in webspace and traffic.
  3. I_do_mean, that e.g. in huWP (and a few dozen more others), some wikipedians would help by translating essentials, after reading what I wrote, and, for instance, would replace "???" on my talk page by the term to be used locally: see http://hu.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Szerkeszt%C5%91vita:W.&action=history
  4. In same context, I wonder that you preferred to u.n.d.o my one&only&first&nearly-last edit, instead of at least accepting the usual minimum, which is a link to an existing COMcat on the subject (whether you like&accept the picture or do not, is something different).
    "Lebedik&Freilech" being Jiddish, and being the title of the concert, might be more difficult to translate (the en translation is still "work-in-progress", as far as I see it.
    The fy translation for the heading "External links", on the other hand, should have been known to ALMOST any fy speaker, albeit a native one or not.

It appears I overestimated your grasp for the English language. This may be because the text you used somehow seemed better than your normal grasp. But whatever the reason, my appologies, I'll try to check it from now on. Same goes for the understanding of wikis from someone posting elsewhere.
OK, I'll run down your points:
  1. What might not be obvious for you is that "please" indicates a request. You can make such a request stronger by adding reasons, or you can leave it to the reader to judge whether or not to do as you asked. I was writing about a request done on this wiki and edits done on this wiki, and the current system allows you to check your discussions without having to go check the pages constantly. So I judged that it would be better to talk on this wiki.
  2. Well, 'ranted' might be the wrong word in this context, as it suggests more text. Also you shouldn't put quote marks around "problem", as it's your own word. Why this is the first project where someone puts your user page on your user page, I don't know. On some wikis different language posters are simply considered incurable idiots. I didn't want to go that way; I hoped you would understand that there was a reason for the distinction. Some wikis might have a different Babel box. But ours would put your talk page in the category. Some might simply not have reacted because they felt you didn't want any discussion. I don't know. Every wiki is different, and that is indeed the point here. But I completely agree that it's impolite to have a page to tell the visitors to go somewhere else! And especially since you can now have the wiki mail you, there's no reason to send them elsewhere; you can simply leave the discussion on the local discussion page. You obviously do have an opinion on the matter, and I would have advised you, as a guest, to use our general discussion page to get our opinions beforehand.
  3. Another case of misunderstanding, I'm afraid. I was just asking the meaning of the lines you wanted to get translated. For example: What would you expect under a heading that is called "References"? Mostly, it was, of course, an invitation to discuss.
  4. I can't tell you what exactly made me roll back your edit at the time. But it was English text, the picture isn't clear enough for being three images in one, at the time it was the wrong license for this wiki, and it's an unusual spot for a first image. I probably wanted your to take a closer look and discuss, and not assume that you could leave it to others to translate your English. ("Lebedik & Freilech" would translate as "Upbeat", but it's a name.)

  6. Ah, yes: That too would be a misunderstanding about the way wikis work. Not everybody has those tabs. They're added through configuration.
