„Die Burg Pfalzgrafenstein steht seit 1327 fest verankert mit dem Flussbett in der Fahrrinne des Rheins. Als Zollburg errichtet hatte sie die Aufgabe, die Einnahmen des Schiffszolls sicherzustellen. Mit ihrem spitz zulaufenden Bug stellt sie sich wehrhaft den Fluten des Rheins entgegen. Dem Fotografen ist es gelungen, die doch recht spezielle Form des Bauwerks, die durchaus an einen Schiffsrumpf erinnert, gekonnt ins Bild zu setzen.“
